Nearly 200 Kilos of Litter Collected During Beach Cleanup

More than 100 volunteers helped remove 199 kilos of litter from two wetlands and one beach at San Quintin. This cleanup took place on September 24, 2022.

“We would like to thank all the volunteers who helped us this weekend,” said Claudia Guzman, Community Engagement Coordinator. “Together we collected different types of waste, mostly plastics, and the litter was later transported by a unit of the San Quintin Foundational Municipal Council.”

The results will be sent to the Ocean Conservancy, the organization that promotes the International Coastal Cleanup in September each year, to generate global statistics.

A special thanks to the communities, schools and businesses that joined in:

  • San Quintin Foundational Municipal Council.
  • Los Pinos.
  • Baja Fun Tours.
  • Los Humedales.
  • Hotel Mision Santa Maria.
  • Restaurante Molino Viejo.
  • Universidad Altum Verum.
  • Tortilleria Mary.
  • Live Different.

This clean up is part of the two-year project  “Plastic-free San Quintin” that began in the summer of 2022. It receives funding from the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA). Also, we will develop an awareness program on the impact of plastic pollution and will remove abandoned plastic structures from the bay.
