Siempre Viva A.C. is seeking for an Field Manager

The Siempre Viva San Quintín Field Station (SVSQ) at San Quintín, Baja California, Mexico seeks a full-time Field Station Manager to work on-site at the new education and research field station.

About the work area

 

Located on the Monte Ceniza Peninsula, San Quintín Bay (30.45°, -115.96°) in Baja California, Mexico, the Siempre Viva Field Station is planned to be built within the 80 hectares owned by Siempre Viva A.C., a Mexican Civil Society Organization (CSO). 

Job Description

  • In coordination with the Academic Director to coordinate and support the logistics of educational and research activities at the SVSQ field station.
  • Maintaining constant communication with the Academic Director regarding the operation and functioning of the SVSQ field station.
  • Proposing and executing a daily/monthly activity plan with defined objectives and goals.
  • Assisting in the design and supervising the adherence to access, research, security, and staff and visitor behavior protocols, as well as to prevent and respond to emergencies that may arise.
  • Demonstrating sensitivity, understanding, inclusion, and equity towards the academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds, disabilities, gender, identity, sexual orientation, and ethnicity of students, teachers, SVSQ staff, and the general public.
  • Conducting activities on the SVSQ property ethically and professionally, in a manner compatible with its long-term conservation.
  • Supporting and guiding researchers, along with the Academic Director, in obtaining permits to conduct research activities on SVSQ property.
  • Collaborating with the Academic Director, teachers, and visitors in designing itineraries that ensure their activities are safe and effective.
  • Developing and implementing field trips, K-12 programs, and public education programs related to SVSQ research or other topics that cater to a broader audience.
  • Designing and implementing, together with the Academic Director, a management program for invasive species, climate change effects, environmental education, and sea-level rise on the SVSQ property.
  • Be a Mexican citizen
  • Be originally from and/or resident of San Quintín, B.C.
  • Have a valid U.S. visa (at least B1 – B2) (Desirable)
  • Have a valid driver’s license and own vehicle for rough terrain
  • Have experience in field work in rugged and inaccessible areas.
  • Basic/Intermediate English level (Desirable).
  • Work experience in the Baja California region is required (Minimum 3 years).
  • Experience working with communities in various sectors is preferable.
  • Experience collaborating with binational or multinational projects is preferable.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordination, administration, logistics, group management, operation and maintenance of equipment and facilities, and monitoring of biological resources.
  • Knowledge in ecosystem management, including environmentally friendly practices and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Experience working with small boats, tractors, all-terrain vehicles, and trailers will be considered an asset.
